WHY PINOCHET SHOULD NOT BE EXTRADITED AND JUDGED

Really, just ask yourself....what is the point of trying to put in trial an 83-year old man, father and grandfather....? NONE. What is really behind this whole mess of Pinochet's detention in London is leftist (marxist) politics, not human rights.

Pinochet's whole future trial in Spain is nothing but a leftist complot....hiden under the farce of Human Rights. You can tell this by the fact that the Judge asking to extradite him, Baltassar Garzon is a member of the Spanish Socialist Party. The worst thing, is that this judge has laready judged Pinochet guilty before he has even entered the court. Baltassar Garzon as a Socialist is trying to prove to Spain and to his party that he is a good guy and a good Socialist. If Pinochet were to ever stand trial in that country under that biased judge, you can be assured that he will put the worst possible sentence or posibly death for ex-general Pinochet. Notice that the only groups or political parties harrasing the old general is the Allende Foundation, The Chilean Communist Party, MIR and other leftist extremists. Baltassar garzon and the Spanish Royal Audience have not let anyone or invited anyone to speak in favor of the ex-General. This is and will be a very biased trial, based on pure political ideology.

Big hipocresy: Fidel Castro received with honors by King Juan Carlos of Spain, while the extradition against Pinochet goes on.

This whole trial is a Socialist-Communist complot; Britain, now under the pressure of the Labour (far-leftist)Government led by Tony Blair, quickly, as friends of Spain did as they were told. This is hardly surprising due to the fact that The judges in Spain have the same tendencies as Britain's Government. Tony Blair and the Labour Government has behaved as a traitor to Chile (a former ally during the Falkland's War)since The U.K had no reason to get involved with this mess, and they have forgotten that Pinochet himself helped Britain during the Falkland's War. The labour Government forgets the fact that Pinochet helped saved many British lives, and this (his detention) is how they pay his good will and gratitude. Pinochet decided t help Great Britain during the Falkland's war, since Argentina was openly hostile to Chile, and had nearly got in a war before with Chile. Chile did not openly become involved, but let British vessels fuel in Chilean territory or use airbases. One of the loyal friends that Pinochet still has in the U.K who recognize his hard and honest labor is Baroness Thatcher and most of the Conservative Party. Tony Blair in his leftist revenge has done much damage to the U.K and the country's image. This is because British tax payers have had to pay for the ex-general's trial and housing, and the worst thing is that this mess has done no good to the U.K. The U.K has gained nothing from it's involvement, because it has alienated a former friend, Chile, and it has affected Britain's and Chile's commercial trade and trust. Tony Blair decided to lean left and listen to a little community of Chilean exiles (and radicals in his party) who will do no good to Britain. Lastly, this is a political fiasco, because the U.K has never had the guts to imprison or judge any dictator from their own "Commonwealth" ex-colonies. This tarnishes the U.K's international image, making it seem as a country with left credentials, with a double standard and biased foreign policy. The biggest lie of all is the fact that the British government would not interfere in this judicial matter, but it did anyways, as we later saw that Jack Straw had to make a final decition. Luckily for Chile, Jack Straw made the right decition to let Pinochet go back to Chile. Also, as it was later found, Lord Hoffman had strong ties to Amnesty International, one of the groups against the Senator.

Gen. Agusto Pinochet, the honest man that led Chile to modern times.

This whole mess has greatly affected Chile, and to those ignorants who say that it will not affect Chile's democracy, are mistaken. It's not the fear of a Military takeover, the circumstances are not the same; it is the fear of leftism revenge that will damage the country. It will affect the governing coalition, the Concertacion, which is made up of the Christian Democratic party, the Party For Democracy (socialist), and the Socialist party. This whole mess will fragment even more the already crumbling coalition; It will specially affect the Christian Democratic Party, which contains leftist and rightist militants as well as centrists. Because of this whole extradition and trial business, Chileans are more divided than ever, emotions running high, and now national reconciliation will take even longer, decades. No one was talking about forgetting the Pinochet years, moderates were hinting that things will be spoken about the past once this emotions are not so high, and when the country is more mature than now. Now former terrorists who killed civilians and members of the Armed Forces pose as "human rights activists". This is sick, and hence Amnesty International and other groups have no credibility. The ironic thing is that now they are the "victims", yet no one speaks for the real victims of those civilians and military that were killed by terrorist acts. Senator Jaime Guzman of the rightist Independent Democratic Union (UDI) one of the drafters of the 1980 Constitution was killed in cold blood outside the catholic University in Santiago. Those terrorists escaped, yet once they went to Europe, in particular Switzerland, they were given "political assylum" something which is laughable, since they were wanted for killing and terrorist activities. Yet the in-"human rights" groups protected them at all costs. This is disgusting. Chile's image gets tarnished by such events and the whole vengeance against the military government. They are trying to bring down the whole system, but it won't work.

Thank you General for making Chile a modern developed nation;
Socialist Judge Baltassar Garzon.

It's crazy, not to mention unfair what Britain and Spain were doing; they were treating Chile like an African country and have no respect for Chilean laws, Chile's government, and Chile's democracy. This is so ironic; Spain is going to teach us Chileans about Democracy? What a joke. Maybe they should look in their own country first and they will find that little has been done in terms of "justice" during the past 23 years after Franco's death. It's ironic how they wanted Chile to imprison Pinochet only after less than 9 years that democracy has returned to Chile. Chile has done tremendous progress in democratic rights since the end of the Pinochet government. Spain has no moral right whatsoever in judging Senator Pinochet since Spain had a dictatorship lead by Gen.Franco which lasted nearly 40 years. These countries cannot jail Pinochet even if he committed crimes, because he has diplomatic immunity and these "supposed crimes" were committed in Chile, not in the U.K or Spain. The U.K and Spain are doing this to divert attention away from growing unemployment and other social problems those inept governments cannot solve. Thanks to the U.K and Spain, Chile is being split in two camps and its democratic stability is at risk. If the leftists win in bringing Pinochet to Spain, then once he has been judged, the Chilean Communists and Socialists (and other radicals)will not stop there. they will start judging and killing anyone who was even mildly involved with the Pinochet government, and once this has happened (over many years), then they will attack Pinochet's successfull free-market economic policies and reverse all the hard work done and all the wealth acquired over all those years. If this happens, we will become a poor nation once again. The Chilean Communist Party is outdated, unreformed and out of touch with the times; so is MAPU and MIR (movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionario). If these two groups ever took over or got to power, Chile will become another Cambodia, with a Pol-Pot at its head. This is why we denounce this groups as undemocratic and hypocritical, who want to destroy our fatherland for their own personal and party's ambitions. We feel ashamed when we meet Chileans that support these countries decitions claimindg that there is "no democracy" in Chile to judge the senator. These people have not been to Chile for the past 20 years or so, and they know nothing of Chile's economic and social reality, that its not as they think it is, and its not like it used to be like when they used to live there. There is a saying in Spainish that goes,"The dirty laundry is washed at home". This means that we cannot support this running over Chile's sovereignity, no matter what you think of this person. If Pinochet had been leftist and was under the same circumstances, we, the CHILEAN ANTI-COMMUNIST LEAGUE would oppose it with all our wills, because before anything, he is a Chilean citizen wether we like it or not. If you are a Chilean national, stand up to Britain's and Spain's injustice!!!

"When a country is humiliated in such a way from outside, there can only be reactions from inside. If the strong reactions are not seen by part of the Government, all sorts of (bad) things will begin to happen".-General Matthei, ex-member of the honorable Government Junta

Pinochet's trial is not about Human Rights, because if it were, the U.K would have looked elsewhere. The U.K would have looked at all its former colonies and Commonwealth members in Africa, specially Nigeria and countries like Kenya and Zimbabwe. The U.K on the other hand has invited these dictators in the past. In fact, they are called presidents (they are not and do not act like one) and treat them like real V.I.P's. Spain also acts on a very leftist agenda. It tries to judge and extradite Pinochet, then when a group of Cuban exiles want to denounce the dictator Fidel Castro (to judge and extradite him as well), the Spanish Royal Audience and Baltassar Garzon, say no. Then Spain, with its ambigous foreign policy, invites Fidel Castro to Spain, meets with the Spanish King even, and has a great time. France also has no moral to denounce that "justice" should be done, considering that "Baby Doc" (Haitian ruthless dictator) is enjoying his exile in France.

When Spain and the U.K say they have no say in a courts decition, and have no right to do it, its a lie. If Jose Maria Aznar (Spanish Prime Minister) of the Popular Party (center-right) wanted to stop this trial, he has full powers as Prime Minister to do so. He SHOULD stop this unimportant B.Garzon judge, because he is hurting Chile and Spain's relation. With his personal vendetta against Pinochet, he is intruding and is damaging the country's former good relations. Under this pretext, Aznar can intrude. The same goes for the U.K; If Tony Blair cared about British economic interests and the well being of having an "ally" in South America, then he could intervene and get Britain out of this mess. Human rights don't matter to politicians; but political favours and gains do. We can say that the whole international community lead by spain and Britain is against Chile; or else why are not ex-dictators from Brazil or like Alfonso Stroessner from Paraguay (ruled from 1954-1989) or even Idi Amin from Uganda being judged? THE ANSWER: TO MAKE CHILE AND PINOCHET PAY for daring to take a liberal free-market path under a strong man.

Lately many prominent people have voiced their opinions in favor of freeing ex-General Pinochet, the Pope John Paul II, ex-British Prime Minister, Baroness Margaret Thatcher, ex-President George Bush, and recently, the head of the Anglican Church, Mr.George Carey. Many politicians in Poland, Senators from Solidarnosc and other rightist parties, have visited him in London and given him the virgin of Czestochowa, because they know his patriotic labor against communism. Victor Chermordin, a Russian ex-General is often known to speak in praise of Gen. Pinochet. It is known that many prominent bussinessmen in London and Europe in General support Senator Pinochet. In Chile he still has much popular support, and many senators (mainly from the right) support his prompt return. Let us not forget all the individual people that have and continue to support this great statesman who defeated the advance of marxism in Chilean soil.

Groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights unfortunately are not what they seem. They have become controlled by leftists and they have let politics get in the way. These are the same groups who claim to be democratic by condemning Pinochet (because of supposed human rights abuses during his government) and cheering the decition in the U.K to extradite Pinochet, is the same group that says little or nothing about human rights abuses in China or Cuba. In fact, Amnesty International has wasted money by bringing Chilean exiles from France and Sweden to England (London) and payed them to protest against the ex-General so as to call attention. We have even seen black and Indian people in those rallies paid by Amnesty International with signs saying, "I want my Chile free of Pinochet". In Chile we do not even have african descendants and indians! It shows to what lengths these leftist groups will go in order to create an idea of popular support. Meanwhile it has neglected its real activities, what they should be doing; saving those refugees from Rwanda or those swiming to Miami from Cuba. The money they wasted bringing those Chilean exiles for a trip to London, they could have better used it for poor people in those countries. They neglect countries like Haiti, where Human Rights abuses are widespread (they happen every day!), they never show campaings against the government of Haiti, they don't care for the situation the people in those countries are living in. They only attack a democracy like Chile, with few problems of human rights abuses (the U.S breaches much more human rights than Chile does).

Even the international community is being hurted with this legal procedings, because now all dictators who were even remotely thinking about retiring or leaving power, they will think twice about it. If Fidel Castro was even thinking of giving the chance to Cubans of stepping down and let a sort of democracy to take place, now this will not happen, because he and other dictators will know that they may risk life imprisonment. If you are a dictator, after the example shown, why leave? Pinochet should have been exempt of this punishment by the pure fact that he 1)did not steal money from the Chilean people and 2)stepped down voluntarily. Gen.Jaruzelski (of the former Communist regime)of Poland was granted immunity because of the false argument that if he had not installed Marshall Law in 1981, Poland would have been overrun by Soviet tanks near the Polish border. Thus, ironically, he has now become the "savior" of Poland.
