6. The process used for including this map and the rest that are in this report rendered much of the text illegible, and some of the lines obliterated. Some touching up was done via Windows Paintbrush to make the map more informative. Due to space restrictions, some diagrams had to be left out of the online version because they couldn't be reduced in size and remain readable.

13. Atlantic Mining Company report to stockholders, 1910 p13

14. Charts were generated from the numbers given in the annual reports of the Atlantic and Baltic Mining companies. Gaps in data are where either the report was missing from the archives, or the report did not give a figure for that year.

16. Lake Superior Milling Practice p35

17. Baltic Mining Company report to stockholders, 1899 p14

18. Baltic Mining Company report to stockholders, 1899, 1900 and 1901 This number was arrived at by adding up the individual expenses listed in the construction accounts. For some reason it does not add up to the total listed at the end of the section, but comes up several thousand dollars short.

28. This and most of the black and white photos of the dams in this paper are from the William Brinkman photo collection.

29. Confusion reigns on this measurement, the Atlantic company reports say 468', Baltic Company reports state 468', Copper Handbook lists it as 475', Engineering News and Professor Terry Reynolds of MTU both give 464'. This researcher did not have the equipment necessary to find out for himself.

30. Engineering News Vol XLVI No. 7 p102.

31. For some reason, the ends of the Baltic pipe stubs are buried, making measurement of inside diameter impossible. (I did not want to vandalize the site)

32. From a footnote in Professor Terry Reynolds article "The Rise And Fall of Steel Dams"

33. Daily Mining Gazette-"Redridge resident recalls Easter Day Flood of 1941"

34. Photo in Reynolds article mentioned earlier. p8

35. Construction accounts from Atlantic reports from 1893-1910

36. Construction accounts from Baltic reports from 1899 to 1902.

37. Information on these roads was taken from data written on the back of the photo by William Brinkman.

38. The Sanborn representations in this website have been extensively modifed from their original format in order for them to be readable.
