The Montreal Falls Area
On our August 2004 camping trip we ventured into the bush of the Keweenaw to visit Montreal Falls. Quite a trip actually. It's maybe a mile or so walk from the end of a road that can barely be called a road.
A rock outcropping we saw off the foot trail to the falls. It was probably connected to the mainland at some point, but the rock has been pulverized over the centuries by the lake.
Side shot of the lower falls
Shot of the lake from in front of the falls showing the roaring river water meeting up with the lake, which was in a somewhat roaring state itself that day.
Kath takes in the beauty of the falls and the day in general.
A shot of the lake taken from above the lower falls.
A detail shot of rapids right above the lower falls.
We hiked upstream in hopes of finding the upper montreal falls, we stopped here as the trail appeared to die out. I doubt these falls are what we were looking for.
A shot of a huge, old tree trunk next to the river. It's size and cut end (on the right) to me would suggest that it was lost during logging operations in the era long ago.
