Fremantle had plenty of cause to believe that they could win this game. Prior to this game, Geelong had not won a game outside Victoria this season, while Fremantle had been beaten by only two teams in WA - the Eagles (twice) and Adelaide. A win for Freo would have put them into the 8, while a win for Geelong would cement them into the top 2 positions, so it was a pretty vital match.
Given all that, Fremantle's performance in this game was bitterly disappointing. They were on the receiving end of a good old fashioned walloping in conditions that were custom-made for the Fremantle style of play. Geelong led at every break, and galloped away with the match in the second half.
Final Score : Fremantle 9.14-68 lost to Geelong 14.16-100
